Compose music the easy way

Want to know how to compose music? How to write a song? But you have a lot of questions about it. Like: How do you find the right piano chords or guitar chords with your melody? What to do with non chord notes?
You want to know how classical composers and pop- or jazz-musicians did it, but you have no money or time for an expensive and extensive study at a high school or conservatory.

Don't worry.
Our way is a lot quicker, and much more satisfying. Just follow this online course; the coolest on the web. (We are Fluxury. Got to Fluxury for free downloads of our music, or to Fluxury Setlist for info about our live-performances in 2012.)

But for those who are interested, lets move on.
On this site you will find all information necessary to create your own music. Compose music step by step. And hé, you might find out that it’s much easier than you thought ... when you know how it is done!

In these lessons we will introduce you to the most basic aspects of musical composition. The three fundamental elements of music are melody, rhythm and harmony. In the first lessons you will learn the most basic features of these three, and at the end of these lessons you will be able to blend them together into a coherent song. This compose music course contains a wealth of examples, from every era of western musical history, that you can play on your keyboard or guitar. Of course we will learn from the best, and the most successful composers. The best melodies of Mozart, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Bernstein, Webber and many more are here to learn from.

Want to know how they did compose their music? Let these examples inspire you, and motivate you to start doing it yourself. In the first lessons, for convenience sake, all examples are transposed to C major (or it’s parallel A minor), to make sure that you really learn to identify the different ‘functions’ of the chords within the scale. In the beginning we will show you the melody as well as the chords. After a while you will recognize the chord-symbols and it is no longer necessary to show the chords. At that point you got the picture, so, from than on we only give you the melody with the chord-symbols. Only when something interesting happens in the harmony, or the accompaniment, will we show the chords again. There are lot's of examples and you will work through several exercises, all of which are existing melodies from music history. The classical masterpieces are there, but also the greatest pop, jazz and blues songs for you to explore.

Well, enough said. We proudly offer you the following free online music courses. We recommend that you go through them in this particular order, so that at the end you are able to compose music as music was ment to be. We will start with an introduction to chords, chord symbols, inversions and alterations. If you know about that already you can skip this lesson and go directly to Chord progressions

Have fun!
